Club Code of Conduct
At the Bank our ethos is for Rugby to be fun and inclusive and to this end we expect everyone involved to lead by example:
1. Coaches
• Rugby is only part of players’ lives. Recognise this and allow for it in your demands on them.
• Treat games against other clubs as lessons, opportunities to learn, not as tests.
• Rugby is for everyone. The Bank of England RFC Mini and Youth Sections are for everyone. Do not rely on ‘star’ players and never make any player feel like a ‘spare part’.
• Never ridicule any player. Never belittle any player. Always make every player feel valued.
• Always look like a coach. Always act like a coach at all times.
• Start on time and finish on time.
• Plan your sessions
• Rugby is a potentially dangerous game which relies on every participant playing it in a spirit
of mutual respect. Teach the players you work with the meaning of ‘fair play’ and set them a
good example.
• Teach players by your own example to respect the Referee at all times.
2. Spectators / Parents
• Act as positive role models to all young players.
• Remember that negative, coarse or abusive behaviour will adversely affect player performance and attitude.
• Respect decisions made by match officials at all times.
• Always show appreciation of play by ALL sides – focus on players’ efforts rather than winning or losing. Our ethos is FUN first, style second, results follow...
• Bank of England RFC has a ZERO tolerance policy to inappropriate behaviour from clubs and their spectators. If you have any concerns please report them to the Welfare Officer (Chris Frost), Head Coach or Chairman.
• Please do NOT leave young players at a session without arranging for another parent or guardian to cover for you in case of an accident or other event – leave your contact details.
• Provide appropriate clothing, especially in cold or wet conditions – cold players give up quickly.
3. Players
• ENJOY your rugby and respect your coaches, officials and fellow players alike.
• Make sure your parents bring you early so you do not delay the session for everyone else.
• Tell your Welfare Officer (Chris Frost), Head Coach or Chairman if you have any concerns over bullying or other player / coach / parent conduct – they will help you and it will remain confidential.
4. Photographic Policy
We are keen to promote positive images of Rugby and do not therefore prohibit photography by parents and guardians. However, there is evidence that some people have used sporting events as an opportunity to take inappropriate images of young people so we have introduced the following guidelines and requested consent on the registration form:
• Ask the Head Coach for permission to take photographs and ensure other parents are happy with their child’s image being used;
• Only use images of young players in appropriate dress;
• Encourage the reporting of inappropriate use of images of young people to the Welfare Officer, Head Coach or Chairman;
• The Club is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for young people. Implicit in this is the commitment to ensure that all publications, resources and media represent participants appropriately and with due respect.
DISCIPLINARY ACTION CAN AND WILL BE TAKEN FOR BREACHES OF THIS CODE
